I have made apple pies for years, especially on holidays like Christmas, Easter and for birthday parties for my children.
At first it was a tiring chore. Then, I got the most amazing, time-saving, easy easy easy apple peeler that cored and sliced apples at the same time. It's a must for any cook who needs to peel and slice apples.
My apple "machine" isn't a machine. It connects to the counter like a tool and doesn't move until I take it off< It makes even slices which is great for baking. All the apples in pies cook at the same ti
me, there aren't pieces that are overdone and underdone. I like that.
All I do is wash my green apples, stick on the pole (easily), and turn the crank, which is also real easy to crank. As I turn, the apple is peeled. Voila! When done, the slicer feature has separated the core and sliced the apple perfectly.
I wouldn't dream of making an apple pie without my apple peeler, corer, slicer. It's one of my favorite kitchen gadgets.
I got mine as a gift, but you can get one online at Amazon for less than $35, and a similar one at Walmart for a few dollars less. It's worth adding it to your kitchen tools if you make fruit pies, tarts or any dessert that the recipe calls for sliced apples. I've been told I could use it to make potatoes, but I haven't tried it.
