American Woman: The 50s Last Age of Innocence

The United States was the most influential economic power in the world after WWII under the Republican Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The country boomed with economic growth and prosperity. The average annual inflation for the entire decade was only 2.04%. The world felt safe at last.

It became a decade of innovation, creation and production. Here are a few happenings:

1954- Civil Rights Movement, America produced the first Solar battery. Mom’s bought a yard of contact paper for only 59 cents. America welcomed a new invention called Polypropylene.

The following year, in1955, Jonas Salk invented a polio vaccine which was given to more than seven million American students. Vietnam War would kill 58,200 Americans over the next 20 years. —Source: U.S. National Archives

In 1956, a solar powered wrist watch was invented.

In 1957. 184-pound (83 kg) satellite named Sputnik 1 was launched by the Soviets. The space race began 4 months later as the United States launched a smaller satellite.

In 1958 the first plastic Coke bottle appeared.

By the end of the decade, most American households owned a TV set. The family watched TV together.

The decade of the 50s would become known as the "last age of innocence.”

It was when America was more conservative, more forgiving and less tolerant of, well, you know, just about everything from backtalk to brawls.

American women are the heart of America. They know how to solve problems, juggle responsibilities, and remain adamant, fearless, courageous and caring for 400 years (1607-2024)

America has been the benefactor of the love and courage of women since the day they stepped into the New World we now call America.

Women are problem-solvers both in and out of the home. That’s likely why many life-changing inventions and discoveries point to an American woman. They’ve given us solid leaders and inventions that transformed life, faith, family and the American Dream.

How important women are to the success of our great country.

Women are the heart of America, and America owes her women the same.
