DF Here's Why You Want to Eat Red Food Everyday

You've heard the popular saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Well, it's no myth. No wives tale. It is really true, especially red apples. In fact, red apples and many other red food from fruits to vegetables have many incredible health benefits.

Here's why you want to eat as much "red fruits and vegetables" as you can everyday.

Red fruits and vegetables are low in fat, calories and sodium, have no cholesterol, and are high in fiber.

Pretty much everyone knows to limit the amount of fat, calories and sodium in the food you eat. But you also want to control the level of cholesterol, especially the bad cholesterol and eat foods high in fiber.

Yes, you want to eat fruits and vegetables high in fiber because these foods help fill you up so don't feel like overeating (eating more food portions than is good for you) but fiber also helps move the digestive process along.

Of course, red fruits and vegetables are also full of vitamins and minerals that provide your body with energy.

Most people eat too little of the recommended amount and variety of fruits and vegetables. Although tomatoes are among the most consumed of the fruits and vegetables in America.

Those who eat their plate full of fruits and vegetables have the lowest risk for chronic diseases.

You are less likely to need vitamin supplements to maintain a healthy diet since the vegetables and fruits provide needed nutrition. Of course, fruits and vegetables of other colors are nutritious also.

Red fruits include red apples, blood oranges, cherries, cranberries, red grapes, red grapefruit, red pears, pomegranates, raspberries, strawberries and watermelon.

Red vegetables include red beets, red peppers, red cabbage, radishes, radicchio, red onions, red potatoes, rhubarb and red tomatoes.

Red fruits and vegetables are rich in carotenoids including lycopene.

Lycopene helps reduce damage from free radicals in your body and  helps prevent heart disease, cancer, prostrate problems, and reduce the skin damage from the sun.

Red fruits and vegetables help memory function, urinary tract health, and makes your heart healthy.

Food Colors. Think of a beautiful rainbow of colors to help you remember the benefits of mother nature's good and healthy food.

Notice that some of the benefits from the five color groups overlap and many fruits and vegetables do not have just one vitamin. They provide a mix of several vitamins and minerals.
