April 2006 Our precious Dobe pup went to doggie heaven. He will be missed.
You might remember, blog, that Dobe was our first black Lab. He was nine years old and such a precious dog.
One morning he woke up and couldn't walk. It was a surprise and a shock and a really big challenge. What to do? It was alarming and urgent. We rushed him to the Vet only to find out the sad news. We invested in medicine and faithfully did the Vet suggested treatments.
Once back home, he was dressed in Doggie diapers. We hand fed him and gently gave him water. Nursing our beloved baby was no chore. I was eager to do whatever it took to help him get well. I slept on the floor next to him so he wouldn't feel scared or lonely. [We couldn't carry him back to his bed, which was in our bedroom. It would be too painful to move him.]
These were terrible days. Heartbreaking times. Sad mixed with hope and fear. He passed shortly thereafter, and I cried for months. I get teary now just thinking about it. I didn't want him to die. But I know dogs don't live as long as we want.
