This is a solid date movie. My honey and I enjoyed it with big smiles. I love the range and sheer pleasure of watching anything that John Travolta does. I've followed his acting career since those wonderful days of Welcome Back Kotter, not to mention so many others including Saturday Night Fever. He never disappoints whether it's a light-hearted role, meany bad guy or hero.
Same for the wonderful, wonderful Robin Williams, who seems to get better and better, if that's possible.
This movie is about two long-time seasoned business men friends who wake up to what's really important in life. It's a funny and very entertaining story with a serious message. Mega. There are a bunch of movies about the happenstance task of unexpectedly caring for small children. This one is a great addition to that list.
That's not all. Intertwined in the storyline is some terrific writing about friendship and loyalty. And I love a good script with dialog that flows like the Potomac River. The interesting part is the thread about this big business deal that is sure to put these longing-for-the-good-life business partners on the road to semi-retirement easy… with this one big deal. Very interesting, especially when all the ways that foil their dreams unfold… until something great happens.
This film is like salt and pepper. You may not need it on your plated meal, but it sure makes it taste better. Yummy!
I loved this film. It has terrific actors who live up to my expectations, a morale or feel-good message, good funny parts, and a grand ending.
Funny… but one of the first things I noticed is Bernie Mac. I loved him in Ocean's Eleven and was sad to hear of his passing. So this was especially enjoyable to watch him play this role. Nice.
This film is not slap stick, but with Robin Williams, expect some great one-liners. It's a joyful story with pure pleasure watching. It amusing. A bit on the frolic side. Goofy. If you are ready for a no-brainer… this is a wonderful movie. Lots of laughs. A few serious moments. Satisfying.
I'd definitely see it again on the re-run channel.
