Is there such a thing as bad food? Does bad food mean food that's not good for you? Not healthy? Contrary to a health condition you might be struggling with? What is bad food. What does it mean?
Well, good morning, blog. Since pouring myself into cooking, I have discovered a few things about food. Eatable food, that is. That stuff we pick up with our hands, a fork, spoon or some other utensil and put in our mouth. Food.
It's true. Not all food is the same. I mean generally speaking. Some food is good food, but no good for some people. On the other hand, some food is not healthy and probably most people should stay away from it, but most don't. It's a conundrum.
Have you heard about the new report on fat as it relates to people. My point is that maybe it's not the food that's so bad, but the choices most people make that's bad. Hmmm
In this stinging report from the Trust for America's Health and some foundation, it claims that 12 states have obesity rates over 30 percent. Yikes! That's a lot.
The report also states that obesity in the South is an epidemic. Ouch! Two years ago, no state had a rating over 15%. Do you suppose people are eating more to soothe their loss of job and financial downfall? It is a possibility.
Obesity used to be those who were hundreds of pounds over normal for them. Now, you may be considered obese if you are just 30 pounds more than advised for your gender, age and height. How crazy is that?
What's not crazy is the health problems that come with being overweight. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the most well known. Since 1995, the report says that diabetes has doubled. Not good. It’s not fats and carbs or even meats and cheeses that are causing the onslaught of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancers.
I wonder exactly what is bad food doing to us? What can we do about it? It is really that the food we're eating is bad, or is it that we each choose to eat what we want, and some of it is not contributing to our body in a healthy way. Sometimes I lack energy, feel tired and just want to lay down, but it's the middle of the day. What to do?
I am probably one of the worst offenders. I get hungry for snacks, which are the doorway to fat if I choose wrong. I need healthy, natural, sugar free, no cook recipes. I found them.
I have prepared bad food, food based on fat, sugars and other bads. I did wake up, and now I focus my meals on more healthy ingredients. The problem is that the more healthy meals don't taste as good and yummy.
My solution is flavor, flavoring agents, fresh herbs and more organic choices. I recommend more treadmill and less milling in front of the TV. Push away from the table or your plate of food when you're full. Finally, my best thought on this what is bad food topic is to serve food on smaller plates. Simple. Oh, and no seconds.
That's it for today. Happy Eats.
