What on earth did a cook do before the egg slicer. OMG! Didn't a knife cut eggs? Okay, that's a bit sarcastic, but I always thought that investing in an egg slicer was a bit much… until I finally broke down and bought one.
I discovered that the only one living in the past was me. What a fantastic kitchen gadget the egg slicer is. It is indispensable for a couple of reasons.
With all the modern-day kitchen tools that I use to save me aggravation and time, the egg slicer is near the top of my list. I guess it's called an "egg" slicer because that's its first use. But truth be told, slicing hard boiled eggs is just one of the slicing uses for this handy kitchen tool. I use mine to slice strawberries, kiwi, banana, radish, olives, cheese and anything else that needs a sharp knife-even slice. It's a short-cut version of the mandoline in the same-size slicing and cutting department.
Yes, the egg slicer is as indispensable as any good knife in the kitchen. It makes life as a cook much better. More fun.
These little slicer beauties come in different makes. I like cast aluminum because it is sturdy. The first egg slicer I got was plastic and it broke fairly quickly, so that was a big waste of money. I invested in the more expensive model because I believe that a cook needs the best equipment possible so that the investment isn't short lived. Every penny spent on kitchen tools should return real value or the money is not well spent. My opinion.
True, I don't need professional-grade kitchen tools, utensils, gadgets, appliances, but I don't want the cheapy version either.
I love my egg slicer because I use it and when I use it, it makes the food I serve look so nice… as if I'd slaved cutting each little slice to perfection. That's just me and my heart going pitter patter.
That's it for today, blog.
