Mom never stops being your mother |
Although we have gotten a few doorbell rings, for the most part, trick or treaters skip our house.
Of course, before he passed, Bailey was a barky boy.
This year will probably be the same. Money is tighter than before, and there are less kids. Since there's a school nearby, that seems telling.
Tightened belts have not seemed to change Halloween retail sales. According to a recent survey, Halloween is one of the highest grossing holiday seasons. Wow! I didn't realize that.
My honey and I used to do our part. We decked our halls with many Halloween decorations from a glowing ghost, to a door wreath of witches and goblins. We each used to carve a pumpkin, too. Oh no, my honey will have something to say about me posting his picture.
BTW, his pumpkin always makes a pretty awesome jack-o-lantern sitting on the front porch with a candle glowing. Mine was barely a face. Boo hoo. Not everyone can be as wonderfully talented as he is.
Anyway, for those who still do hand out treats to kids on Halloween, many are now doing non-candy gifting: pencils, stickers, coupons, toys, coins and toothbrushes made the list.
For kids and adults, too, it is fun to dress up, attend costume parties, carve pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, bob for apples, visit haunted attractions, play pranks, tell scary stories and watch horror films. These activities are probably the better and safer way to participate in Halloween this year if Halloween is still a day of fun for you.
I love holidays, especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Easter and Mother's Day. But I guess I am a little tired. It's not so much fun anymore to drag out the boxes from storage and decorate. It's more of a chore. Cleanup and put away, too, is tiring. The old body just ain't what she used to be.
Whatever you're doing this Happy Halloween, I wish you many smiles and good memories.
