The OXO Good Grips 3-Piece Silicone Spatula Setis one of the best investments I've made, and I have a ton of kitchen gadgets.
I got my set online at Amazon for less than $12.00 for the set of 3. What I like about these spatulas is their flexibility. I can use them to:
- spread mayonnaise on sandwich bread
- get the last bit in the bottom of the mustard jar
- stir whipped cream in the mixing bowl
- sauté onions frying on the stove
- fold cheese in the bubbling beans
You don't really need the three colors, but it's makes it easy to find in my gadget drawer: one spatula is a raspberry color, one is green and one is white.
The description claims that the handles are ergonomically shaped to fit comfortably in my hand, but I'm not sure that little feature matters. I hold the long handle various ways depending on the bowl or pan and what I'm doing, stirring, scooping, scraping.
I do like that these spatulas are hardy, work well on my stainless pans and on my non-stick skillets. Very nice. The silicon spoon part hasn't dinged or melted or changed shape in all the times I've used them. If I used one of my "regular" white spatulas, the end does bend out of shape a bit, one got a little yellowy smudge on the tip that won't come out. So, these OXO ones last longer and have more value.
They are silicone and OXO claims that they can be washed in the dishwasher, but I've never tried it. As a general rule, I don't mind hand washing them. I save my dishwasher for the bigger items, but that's just me.
If you cook, you want to invest in this spatula set. It's worth every penny. Here's a list of basic kitchen tools, gadgets and appliances.
