Cascadian Farm is a grower, manufacturer and distributor of a wide range of organic products from frozen fruit to breakfast cereal since 1972; and helps to preserve the soil, and safeguards the rivers and streams around us, working in harmony with the land.
Organic means grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones.
USDA National Organic Program (NOP) defines organic as follows: Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations.
Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation.
Before a product can be labeled "organic," a Government-approved certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic food before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant must be certified, too.
Vitamin D promotes healthy bones. Lona Sandon, RD, assistant professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas reports, "If you have a vitamin D deficiency, particularly in your older years, it can lead to osteoporosis or osteomalacia [bone softening]."
If you want to lower your blood pressure, Vitamin D may be just what the doctor ordered. If you're trying to reduce your risk of diabetes, or lower your chances of heart attacks, rheumatoid arthritis or multiple sclerosis, then vitamin D should be at the front of the line in your daily supplement regimen.
Vitamin supplement is a dietary aid taken by those who need or desire additional vitamins beyond what is provided in their normal daily diet. Most vitamin supplements come in pill form. A drink mix is also a popular way to intake vitamin supplements. These may be more readily absorbed by the body as they are in a smaller form.
Vitamin supplements do not replace the need to eat healthy foods.
