The Patriots won a war to get away from the oppression near tyranny
they’d already experienced. They fought a bloody battle to be free from
obey or else “taxed bondage.”
In writing the Constitution, the Founders established a framework that included, but were not limited to:
Goal 1. Establish a Constitutional Republic
Goal 2. Recognize the people who won our freedom from England’s rule.
Goal 3. Avoid the dangerous extremes of tyranny from a monarchy or democracy.
1787 U.S. Constitution
When our Founders completed the text of the Constitution for this new nation, the emphasis was on the individual.
Goal 1. Establish a Constitutional Republic
A Republic is what our forefathers wanted, preferred and determined when they began writing the U.S. Constitution for the Republic of the United States of America.
*A republic is a form of government where power resides in elected individuals representing the citizen body. Government leaders exercise power according to the people and rule of law.*
Thomas Jefferson said, “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule where 51% take away the rights of the other 49%.”
Goal 2. Recognize the people who won our freedom from England’s rule.
Without the patriots who won the American Revolution, we would likely still be part of England. The Founders recognized their courage and tremendous sacrifices made to earn freedom fighting against a well armed military.
That’s why the first words of our U.S. Constitution recognize them and who they represent as, “We The People,” and established Legacy of Citizenship to “ourselves and our posterity” meaning their descendants for generations to come in perpetuity.
Those patriots are our “First Veterans” fighting against a foreign enemy. They deserved the legacy they established.
Goal 3. Avoid the dangerous extremes of tyranny from a monarchy or democracy.
The completed text of the Constitution for this new nation expressly forbade, and limited the power and rule of government and church, and in doing so, eliminated a formal aristocracy.
The Constitution separated church and state as it related to “dominating control,” NOT priests and pastors, prayer in Congress, classrooms, prayer before sporting events, in hospital chapels, before meals…
By limiting the power of government and church and eliminating a formal aristocracy, the Founders created a climate of freedom of the people, by the people and for the people. That was one of their goals.
