Microwaves are a common, quick and convenient way to cook food. However, they can cook food unevenly.
Whether you are preparing food normally or doing a “quick cook” using your microwave, you don’t want to eat food partially cooked. That could be trouble. Big trouble.
Cooking food safely is the best way to avoid getting sick.
First, here's a list of susceptible foods you want to especially take care when you’re cooking, storing and reheating.
- Any meat
- Poultry i.e. chicken, turkey
- Dairy products
- Eggs
- Can goods i.e. salami, ham
- Seafood
- Cooked rice
- Cooked pasta
- Prepared salads that you make or buy ready-to-eat from the grocery store: such as coleslaw, pasta salads, fruit salads, rice salads
Okay, now, here are some “preparation” tips when you’re “microwave cooking.”
1. Cut food into evenly sized pieces if possible, or put larger or thicker items towards the outside edge of the dish.
2. Cover the food with a microwave safe lid or microwave plastic wrap. This traps the steam inside and promotes more even cooking.
3. Rotate and stir food during cooking.
4. Wait until the standing time is over before you check that the cooking is complete.
Short and sweet is all there is for today, blog. Enjoy.
