Raising Baby 3: Getting Ready for Baby

Samson is our new baby puppy. We named him after his puppy mommy, Sammy. Samson's a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. We affectionately call him “puppy.”

I believe puppies grow up better when puppy parents treat puppy similarly to a new infant. Anyway, here’s what we did.
Of course, well adjusted people have these basic needs throughout life.
With a new puppy on the way, we believe it’s up to us, the puppy’s parents, to provide basic needs for our new puppy.

When we were getting ready for puppy to come home. we got him a few things: We got him a crate for his safety, as well as for potty training. He needed a solid mattress for good sleeping and to avoid development problems. I purchased him a good microfiber bed mattress with waterproof cover to support his healthy development, easy washing (and unnecessary trips to his Veterinarian).

I sewed him a sheet with matching bumpers for his grate to protect him from injury. That made it easy to remove and wash all his bedding.

Puppy also got a playpen. It was for training. We didn’t want him to spend time in his crate that was only meant for sleeping.

We spread a shower curtain out on the family room floor, and laid an old chenille bedspread on top of the shower curtain just in case of puppy drips. Then,  setup the play pen on top.

Puppy got blankets, puppy soaps, towels, a brush, toys for a new puppy, a collar for his tags, harness for walking, training treats. food table for the day he’d grow those long legs. Of course, there were other this and thats. The idea is to be prepared.///
