Home Business: Picture It

Your goal setting is a picture — not necessarily a sales forecast. “See” your business the way you expect it to be — in a year — after you have done the work to set it up correctly. Once you see it in your mind… write it down.

Every person in the world devotes countless hours to thinking of their future and their present situation in life. Almost everyone wishes that there was something that they could change in their life.

Whether it is their family life; their friendships; relationships or finances, everyone wants to change something. The first step to doing that is to set goals. Many are great at setting goals; but most are incapable of following through with them.

Think about it. How many times have you decided on a course of action and simply didn’t follow through with it? That is pretty much the norm for most people. Sometimes even setting goals at all is the harder part of accomplishing any. The easiest way of looking at this is to think of each and every New Year.

As much as we all like to attend and talk about New Years Eve parties, the most common source of conversation is the resolutions for the New Year. All it really is… is code talk for new goals that need to be set. The only problem is that most set the same resolutions every year, and every year are unsuccessful. After all, if people were successful; why do most keep making the same resolutions year after year?

By setting goals you can:

  1. Achieve more in your lifetime
  2. Improve your overall performances in life
  3. Increase your motivation to achieve the most out of life
  4. Increase your pride and satisfaction in your achievements
  5. Improve your self-confidence
  6. Plan to eliminate attitudes that hold you back and cause unhappiness

People who use goal-setting effectively:

  1. Suffer less from stress and anxiety
  2. Concentrate and focus better
  3. Show more self-confidence
  4. Perform better in all areas of life
  5. Be happier and more satisfied with life

Goal Setting Also Helps Self-Confidence. By setting goals in every aspect of your life, and measuring your achievement, you are able to see what you have done and what you are capable of. Keep in mind that your life is a whole. One aspect affects another as you’ll see in the diagram shown later.

The process of achieving goals and seeing their achievement gives you the confidence and a belief in yourself that you need to be able to achieve higher and more difficult goals.

Providing that you have the self-discipline to carry it through, goal setting is also relatively easy.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. Years ago when I first mentioned setting goals, my honey, Dan, scoffed in disbelief.  We finally agreed to set our goals each January. We’ve been doing it now for 15 years.

Each year before we agree on our new goals, we review the previous year’s goals. It’s easy, because we keep the pages in a binder. We check off the goals we’ve accomplished before we create new ones.

What’s fun… is looking back on the goal sheets we wrote up 2, 5 or even 10 years ago… It is an amazing that we actually did most of them. We still haven’t won the lottery. Dan and I look forward to each January when we review what we accomplished the previous year and set our goals for the year. It works!
