Restaurant Review: Mimi's Cafe in Allen Texas

Saturday before Easter Sunday, my honey and I went to Mimi's Cafe for brunch. It was a happy day for us and we wanted to celebrate our good. I ordered Eggs Benedict and my honey ordered the Corned Beef Hash breakfast.

The first thing we noticed was the long wait to get seated, the long wait before a server came a calling, and finally the long wait before anyone took our order. We only took notice because it felt more than the usual restaurant after being seated at the table wait.

We browsed the menus and finally a woman who was a bit surly stepped up to take our order. Not a bit pleasant. But easy to overlook. Maybe she was an unhappy person, or maybe she was just angry to have to wait tables at her age.

My eggs benedict arrived, and to my surprise my plate looked sparse. But no matter, the eggs were there, sitting on an English muffin, stacked with ham and covered with a couple of spoonfuls of hollandaise. Garnish?  I got a spoonful of cubed and roasted potatoes. Nice.

I picked up my fork with a bit of excitement, because this is one of my favorite brunch meals and I hadn't had it in years. On a side note, the best EB I have ever had was at the Five Crowns in Laguna Beach, California.

Anyway, I pushed a forkful of the first bite of slice and waited for the taste to swell me with goodness. Alas, no goodness filled my mouth. Unfortunately for my long-awaited taste buds, the hollandaise tasted as if  it came from a jar that had been on the shelf too long. Jar hollandaise may be okay for the kitchen at home, but when you pay money for chef cooking, it should be divine to the taste. It was far far away from the divine that I expected.

Overall, our dining experience was a 5 on a scale of 10 at best, and that's generous. We probably will not park and dine at Mimi's Cafe again, because we want more eating value when we plunk down our hard-earned money.

That's it today, blog. Have a happy day!
