What Kitchen Tools Does a Beginner Need in the Kitchen

Kitchen tools are key for someone just learning to cook. So since I am committed to learn to cook… a bit better than when the kids were eager eaters, I did a bit of research. Then, I took some time to take a little inventory of what I have in our kitchen. I wanted to be ready to cook, bake and grill yummy foods that are sliced, chopped and masheroood.

I quickly discovered that a few knives, my potato peeler and colander were about the only cooking tools I have on hand (other than a blender). Okay, I also have a Cuisinart food processor that's about 20 years old and a few bowls and measuring cups. Even so, that's a sorry predicament for someone who can't cook, but wants to learn how to be a chef-like cook so that I can have more control over what I eat including the ingredients that go into what I eat.

Healthy and Fit? Yes. Staying healthy and fit is all about eating... and that means I need to learn how to cook food in the kitchen rather than buy prepared meals at the grocery store.

Anyway, having some kitchen tools that make my cooking life a little less stressful seemed like the place to start. Since some recipes I tried to cook called for kitchen tools I didn't have, the first thing on my to-do list was add a few more of the basics.

I pointed my mouse to Amazon and searched for a few kitchen supplies. To my shopping cart, I added an ice cream scooper, a set of nested round cutters, a 6-piece Mandoline, pastry brush, grater, sifter, strainer and a couple of cook books. I also got some storage containers to keep the bugs out of my flour. I am guessing that I need a bunch more kitchen stuff, but it's a start.

I have a sorry hand mixer that is crunking along, and I know I new one and I need a Kitchen Aid Mixer with attachments. If only… Wishful thinking on my part, because mixing by hand is tiresome and because I am not a good cook [yet], my mixings are not exactly mixed up. Oh me oh my… I will get better. I know. If I just keep trying. After all, practice makes perfect, and since my honey offers more praise and no complaints, I have a positive attitude.

I'm thinking that becoming a good cook is like having a hobby that makes people feast on food that gives them a happy feeling. Yea, what could be better than feeling happy.

I'll update my list of kitchen tools and supplies as I go along, and maybe I'll add a list of kitchen staples. That's a buggeroo for me already. (I start to cook and do not have the basics in the pantry or on my spice shelf.)

That is the update on my quest to become a good cook. Any ideas. Help needed:-)

That's all for today, my blogger friend.
