Happy Birthday to My Honey

I love my birthday. Who wouldn't? It's one day out of the whole year where you are the center of attention. If you like being in the spotlight, this is the day of days for you.

According to Wiki, an individual's birthday is celebrated by a party where a specially made cake, usually decorated with lettering and the person's age, is presented. Yup! I am having a party for my honey... although it is a party for two... well, three counting Bailey, our pup.

Sing a Song of Happy
The last stanza of Patty Hill's and Mildred Hill's famous song, "Good Morning to You" (unofficially titled "Happy Birthday to You") is typically sung to the birthday honoree. But I started yesterday singing "Happy Birthday Eve" to him and continued this morning when my honey woke up to my singing my own version of birthday joy. I also like Disney's Happy Birthday to You version because it is just fun to listen to.

Birthday Cake
Even though there is usually a grand birthday cake traditionally studded with the same number of lit candles as the age of the individual, my honey is getting his favorite meal instead. That would be steak and baked potato. According to tradition, the celebrated individual (that's my honey today) usually makes a silent wish and attempts to blow out the candles on the cake in one breath. If successful, it means the wish will be granted. Yes, there probably will be a wish to win the lottery made by my honey today.
In many cultures, the wish must be kept secret or it won't "come true" so oops, forget I said a word about his wish.
In Mexican tradition, a piñata takes the place of (or is in addition to) a birthday cake. An occasional activity is spanking the birthday individual, with one usually gentle "swat" for each year since birth. My honey will be happy to skip both these traditions this year.

Birthday Gifts
Presents are bestowed on the individual by family members and/or party guests appropriate to the birthday boy's (or girl) age. My honey loves golf so anything golf is a joy for him. This year I gave him something really special. I know he will love it even though it is not a golf gift, because it fits who he is and what he likes, plus it is a gift that keeps giving all year long.

Famous People
Often, famous people share the birth date. In this case, my honey who is my famous person... shares January 26 with Paul Newman (famous actor) and Douglas MacArthur, a U.S. general in WWII who said, "I shall return" long before Arnold Schwarzenegger made the phrase, "I'll be back" famous.

That's it for today, blog.
