Learning to Cook Lesson One, I Learned About Knives

I started my cooking lessons with Chef David today. WOW! Let me start by saying, Wow! When my DVDs came in the mail, I was excited. I opened the box and was greeted by this lovely designer paper folded over something inside. It was like getting a gift. The beautiful paper had a gold sticker like a luscious box of high-end chocolates.

I carefully released the sticker and opened the paper to see a little bag made from the same paper design. It had Chef David's business card on it and guess what? His personal signature. It took my breath away. I felt so special. It was like getting a personal hello from the chef. I couldn't wait to get started.

Lesson 1 or as Chef says, the first bite, was even more impressive than receiving the personalized DVD set. I am already confident that Chef David will be able to teach me to be a better cook just because he took the time to make my journey personal. That's an accomplishment. Anytime you can give someone confidence doing something, you've given a real gift that money can't buy.

I pushed play. In the first "bite" I discovered that I didn't know a whole bunch of important info that could have made my life cooking in the kitchen much easier.

I learned about knives and how to best care for them. I didn't even think that there was a best way to care for knives. Aren't forks, spoons and knives all the same when it comes to washing and storing? I discovered how to set up a prep tray, which I did learn the get-ready lesson earlier… the hard way... during one of my recipe disasters. But Chef David explained much more about food preparation that I had discovered. He has great tips on efficient cooking. I like this a lot because efficient is another work for saves me time.

Lots of basics that I should have known. Now, I do.

Thanks for following my blog.
