This is our experience about potty training puppy. All our pups live inside our home. Like us, we want to direct our pup on where to pee and pooh. Training puppy is easy if you are willing.
To train our new puppy, we sacrificed our time because: “A little time and inconvenience in the beginning, turns the following years into a perfectly potty trained pup. Here is what we do: We set up the room before we bring puppy home from the breeder. We walk in the door, and potty training starts.
Naturally, this process does not return results for an 8-week old puppy. What it does do is introduce puppy to his environment when he is beginning to learn.
Of course, initially, it was just an introduction. It would be many days before puppy was ready to retain what he learns. Don’t wait. Start right away.
We slept in the family room with him for two months. We wanted to be with him so he knew he wasn’t alone.
My Honey took him out to potty every two hours. We set a timer for us, as well as, for puppy to hear. That sounds like it was "no sleep" time. It was worth it.
Samson learned in record time. He was potty trained, but didn't come out of the playpen for another few weeks just to be sure.
You could say “we were trained: before he was.” It’s a training strategy we’ve used many times. We only used the playpen with his crate at first during training. Once he was potty trained, he didn't need it anymore.
He is so smart. We don’t have to take him out on a timetable anymore. He comes and tells us. That’s why the first 2 months were so important.
Pup's crate bed is in our room now. The door is always open.
Pup sleeps in his bed, until some time in the wee hours, then, he jumps up on our bed. His crate bed is his belonging. That’s important. In the morning, he's with "his pack." That's us. We love him so much. We're happy he's taken to us. Of course, he's treated with love.
Puppy is three years old now. He gets a bath with his own shampoo and towels. His coat is brushed and his teeth get brushed with doggie toothpaste.
He gets to run and go on walks. He’s taken a spin in the golf cart. He has a seat belt in the car. None of taking care of our puppy is a chore. He loves us.
At his last Vet checkup, he weighed in at 110 lbs. We want puppy to grow up healthy, safe and happy.///
