Vacation or Mini Vacations To Go

My daughter and her hubby are planning a vacation to Europe. Is that exciting, or what? What are vacations all about anyway? People say [whoever people are] that getting away from the daily grind is good. It's a renewal of the juices that keeps us ticking, I guess. Yes, shake off the cob webs, empty out any pent up frustrations. Wipe all those stored frowns off the slate and replace them with the fun and pleasure smiles tucked away.

Ah, yes, vacations. I personally have been on few get-aways over the many days and weeks that make up my life. Okay, I admit that I've enjoyed a fair share, but not as often as I'd like. I wonder what the heck that means?

If I wanted more vacations, why didn't I plan them and go? Good question. Maybe I didn't need the renewal? Maybe I felt as if I had enough and hindsight is just full of it. I don't know. But… if I had to decide right now, today, I would probably not miss going on a vacation. Why? Who knows what goes on in my mind [smile]. My honey tells me, "I never know what you're thinking."

Hey, that reminds me of a one of the greatest movies of all time.  Here's the quote: "Never let 'em know what you're thinking." Do you know it? Yes, the Godfather. We have the Collector's Edition Trilogy.

I digress. Sorry, blog.

I love vacations at the beach. I can swim and make sand castles. Sounds childish, but I think there's a child in everyone of us, no matter how old we are. I want to let my child out once in a while. [maybe even more often than that] I am not really a mountain person. But, if I was, I might enjoy hiking and sitting by a cozy campfire listening to my honey tell comedic stories. He has an awesome sense of humor. I'd laugh till… well, you know.

There's no doubt in my mind that my little Kimmy and her hubby will gain a new perspective of the world and a new appreciation for her home.

As for me, blog, it would be exciting to travel to Europe. I have always wanted to visit Italy.

I do live in one of the most entertainment and culture filled cities. We have JFK memorial. Deep Elum. The Arts District. Who can resist Bluebonnets? Tex-Mex and Frozen Margaritas. Yup! I have a huge choice for any number of mini vacations right here at home… from the zoo, museums and botanical gardens to Six Flags, water parks, go cart riding and more, including the State Fair and theaters galore.

Here's a little home vacation that I do. I am not sure where I got this idea, but anyone can do it.

1. Go get a pen and some slips of paper. If there are 7 rooms in your home, get 7 pieces of paper. If there are 9 rooms, get 9 pieces of paper.

2. Now, go to the middle of the first room and sit down on the floor.

3. From memory, draw a rough picture of what another room in your house looks like. For example, if you are in the family room, draw the master bedroom. Imagine the room and everything in it. Now, draw it on the first sheet of paper.

4. When you're done, go to another room. Sit on the floor in the middle of the room and repeat this exercise.

5. Do this until you've drawn each room in your home. Now, go back to each room and compare the actual room to your drawing. Did you leave out anything in your drawing of it? Are there things in the room that you don't remember seeing before?

6. If the weather is good, go outside. Close your eyes. Be very quiet and pay attention to what you hear. Do you know what each sound is? Do you know what or who is making each sound? Did you realize how noisy it is where you live! Or is it really quiet. Have you noticed before?

7. Has it been awhile since you looked at family photographs? If so, get out that box of pictures or the album in the closet. Imagine what the person in the picture was doing just before the picture was snapped. Try to imagine what they would be like now. Would they be quiet, withdrawn or talkative and opinionated? Would they be clumsy or graceful? Would they like to watch TV or go to ball games?

Most people spend time planning ahead for their vacation and travel for miles. But you can take an mini vacation to go anytime without even leaving home.

Where did you spend your last vacation?
