What to Do When Grandson Visits. Here it is the day after Memorial Day and joy of joys, our little grandson is coming to visit. He be Harrison. Eleven this year. I can't believe it. Time goes by so fast.
I am really excited to spend quality time with this little dynamo. [Yes] Harrison is a very active youngster. I mean active. He is a sports enthusiast but more a participator than spectator. Both really.
Ever since he was a wee one, he has played organized sports. The ones for little kids I mean. You know. Baseball, basketball, football, hockey and soccer.
I am mystified at how his parents keep up. Not just the taxi service to and from the game, but all those practices… Double down on that because Harrison sometimes joins more than one sport at the same time. Yikes! At the same time I said. [Its true]
Harrison is completely drenched in sports. He loves sports. He not only practices, participates and plays in several kid sports teams, but at home he watches sports on TV and collects sports stuff. Caps, shirts, videos, yes; but his iPad is aglow with more sports from sports games to who knows what an active ten year old is mesmerized by on his electronic pad machine.
Well, anyway, me his grand is so small a sports follower. Some. Teeny tiny. But no knowledge in my head about one, the other or most. A bit about football. The team or two I follow. Less on basketball. Mavs some. More on golf. Ice skating during the Olympics. Tennis, blah, too boring for me. Ice hockey. Yes, my honey and I went to a game and that was fun. Here's a sport I like that most don't know… boxing. Heavy weight boxing. [Very fun]
The question is for me this AM today as I watch out the front door for my son to drop off this little boy called Harrison is this: What will we do today that doesn't drive him to utter boredom?
Happy am I that we got a WII for Christmas last. We could call up some movies or games on our flat screen, except for the fact that Harrison is glued to his iPad. Maybe there's something we can do together on the iPad… that is, if he feels the urge to share. He is a sharing boy. Happy to share. I know. Hmmm… He probably wants to play a game with me because I'm sure he wants to beat me at it. He will. No doubt. Hah ha. Good for him. Sorta boosts his ego and confidence. Good. Happy. [smiles]
Something else we've done in the time shared together when he was younger is plant flowers. They are still growing and it's a joy to see the results of our blooming work done years before.
We often in the past played cards. He loves to win at cards. Fish mostly. Crazy 8s some, too. We've made things. Crafty stuff I mean. That might be fun today. Swimming was another if it's good weather warm later on. Harrison loves to play with Bailey although Bailey can overtake him (he the dog plays nice with this child).
Most of all, I want each day we share to be a wonderful memory that he can carry in his heart for years and years. A memory that turns into a story he tells his son someday.
That would be the best thing I could do when our grandson visits today.
That's all for today.
