I'm Learning to Cook Lesson 11, I Broiled and Picked Up Tips on Grilling Indoors and Out

Well, this next cooking lesson was about broiling and grilling indoors and out. For grilling outdoors, my honey has a wonderful gas grill and he does a fabulous job of grilling. We grill a lot in the summer. I love this because he becomes the cook, and he's a much better cook than I am. Grilling in the kitchen or outside, he has a natural instinct for putting food together and spicing it. Even with my cooking lessons, I have not yet exceeded his cooking skill. I hope I can become as good a cook as my honey.
Although, I did learn a lot about grilling, I probably won't practice on the grill, mainly because the grill is my honey's domain.

I did discover how to prepare food for the grill. Now, my honey does do this part, too, but now I can help and even relieve him of the prep part of the cooking task. I think he'll be happy about that. Less for him to do.
Round cutter set

One of the lessons had to do with preparing hamburger patties for the grill. I sort of disagree with Chef on this one. I like the shape of my patty to be round or at least resembling round. I shape my patties with my hands, or I use a round cutter from my set of cutters. Also, I like to put a bit of spice in the meat, or at least a rub.

Round hamburger patty
Chef did make a sort of Bundle Burger for the grill… stuffing two patties with a filling such as cheese, olives and mushrooms, and then crimping them together. This gives the hamburger a surprise inside.

Hobo meal
I do something similar in the oven. I call mine a "Hobo."

Instead of just cheese, I put onions and slices of potato in mine. Wrap it up with aluminum foil and bake it until done, about 45 minutes. It's how a "Hobo" cooks a meal. If I remember right, my daughter Kim, cooked these foil-wrapped meals over a campfire when she was in Girl Scouts.

I very much enjoyed the bite on how to make a grilled vegetable salad. Nice. Different. Something I had not thought of. Chef called the get-ready emulsion "liquid sunshine." Love this.

My favorite parts of this lesson are the recipes for bread and pork chops. With this lesson, I can make at least one recipe for bread. Yea! I also discovered that broiling pork chops is nearly foolproof. Easy as pie, and the meat is done through and juicy to eat.

Thanks for following my blog.
